Tonight: Cyber Security ‘Fireside Chat’ 7PM at Library

Cyber crime

Belmont’s IT Advisory Committee will host a fireside chat on cyber security tonight at 7PM at the Belmont Public Library.

Are you concerned about cyber security? There’s a great presentation this evening at the Belmont Public Library. This session is sponsored by Belmont’s IT Advisory Committee (ITAC)  and will address topics such as:

  • The latest news in cyber security and why it matters to you
  • Cyber threats you might face at home
  • Tips for protecting yourself online

The guest speaker for the evening is Scott Donnelly. Scott is the Director of Technical Solutions at the cyber security firm Recorded Future. He’s a former officer with the Central Intelligence Agency who has worked closely with leading cyber security teams at Fortune 1000 companies and government organizations, where they help develop cyberthreat intelligence capabilities for threat hunting, risk mitigation, and incident response.

Also speaking will be Belmont PD’s Officer James Siracusa. Jim has been with the Belmont Police Department since 2013 after five years in the pharmaceutical industry. For the past year, Jim has been working on data collection and software improvements for the Belmont Police Department. In the coming year, he looks forward to a more expanded role in cyber crimes with the Belmont Police and within the community. He’ll be sharing some cyber crime statistics from Belmont and talking about the situation on the ground here in the Town of Homes.

This is part of an on-going effort to educate the public on important technology and public-health related matters including cyber security. I look forward to seeing you there!
