Important Public Discussion Thursday: Expanding our Board of Selectmen

Summary: this Thursday, October 12th there’s an important meeting and discussion of the proposal to expand our Town’s Board of Selectmen from 3 to 5 members. Come give your feedback to the Committee researching that question.

Just a note to the Blogging Belmont readership that there’s an important meeting coming up this week. The Committee to Study the Number of Selectmen is inviting the public to a discussion on Thursday, October 12th at 7:00 in the Selectmen’s Meeting Room at Town Hall.

The Committee would like to gather comments and opinions from Belmont residents on the proposal to expand our Board of Selectmen from three- to five members. The Committee welcomes your thoughts and feedback and invites all residents to attend.

Some background: at the Annual Town Meeting in 2017, Town Meeting members voted to create the Committee to Study the Number of Selectmen. Appointed by the Moderator and charged with considering the question of whether the Belmont Board of Selectmen should, or should not be expanded, the Committee has been hard at work researching the operations of comparable towns, contacting current and former Belmont Board of Selectmen and gathering data. Our charge calls for a final report to Town Meeting by January 31, 2018.

For further information about the Committee to Study the Number of Selectmen or to provide feedback both before and after the October 12th meeting, please contact Committee Chair, Paul Rickter at rickter@gmail.com.
