A note that the same folks who launched Belmont’s highly successful “Belmont Goes Solar” solar power drive are putting together a new effort to push to increase the number of electric vehicles in Belmont: “Belmont Drives Electric.

The campaign kicks off this month with two test driving events on Thursday, October 13 and Saturday October 15.

Belmont Drives Electric is a new community-run program, sponsored by Sustainable Belmont, Belmont Energy Committee, Belmont Light and other Belmont residents, kicks off in October to promote the use of electric vehicles in Belmont. Converting from a gas-combustion powered car to an electric vehicle could cut your transportation carbon footprint by half. Save money and help reduce Belmont’s carbon footprint.

Based on the highly successful Belmont Goes Solar program, which offered discounts on solar panels, this program for Belmont residents includes pre-negotiated deals on EVs with local car dealers, Belmont Light monetary incentives, and community volunteers available to answer your questions.

You can show up and test-drive an electric vehicle (EV) and learn about time-limited money-saving incentives on Thursday, Oct. 13, from 6:30 pm – 8:30 pm at the Belmont High School Cafeteria area. The other date is Saturday, Oct. 15, 2:30pm – 4:30pm at the same location.

Both events will happen rain or shine. Light refreshments will be served and EV experts will be available to answer your questions.
