Final Stretch: Five Ways To Say ‘Yes For Belmont’ This Week

We’re a little more than a week away from the April 7th Town Election. If you’ve been sitting on the sidelines and watching the orange lawn signs drift by outside the car window, the time is NOW to get off your duff and get involved with the most important campaign in recent town history. As this impassioned editorial by Belmont High students in today’s Boston Globe makes clear: this is a vote not just for additional funding for roads and schools. It is a vote for Belmont’s future and an affirmative statement about what kind of town we want to be for seniors, students and everyone in between.

Now that we’re in the final stretch, there is lots to do. Check out the Yes for Belmont web site if you want to learn more. Or, if you know the deal, here are five ways you can get involved and make a big difference this week:

Vote!

You can vote any weekday from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm in the Town Clerk’s office. Bring an ID and vote YES for Belmont.

  • GO DOOR-TO-DOOR! The Yes For Belmont campaign will be canvassing today (Sunday) from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM. Meet at 90 School Street starting at 2:30-2:45 ish and help spread the word!
    • SHOW YOUR SUPPORT!  You saw folks out holding signs this weekend. There are many more opportunities to show your support for the override by holding signs. Namely:
      • This afternoon, from 3:00 to 5:00 PM folks will be holding signs at the Belmont Center underpass and Cushing Square. Join them.
      • Tomorrow (Monday) from 6:30 to 7:00 PM there will be folks holding signs at the Beech Street Center prior to the start of the second override debate which begins at 7:00 PM. Show up to show your support.
  • CALL YOUR NEIGHBORS! YES For Belmont is operating phone banks on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday evenings this week between 5:00 and 8:30 PM. These are fun, social gatherings where you can eat pizza with other Y4B volunteers and call around to voters in town to make them aware of the April 7th vote and the importance of voting yes. • VOTE! You know you’re voting “yes,” so why wait until April 7th to do it? You can vote any weekday between 8:00 AM and 4:00 PM at the Town Clerk’s Office, where there are voting booths ready and waiting for you. Bring an ID with you and make sure to turn the ballot over. The override question is on the BACK of the ballot.
  • COME TO THE DEBATE MONDAY! Warrant Committee member Adam Dash did an amazing job presenting the case for a YES vote on the override at the League of Women Voters’ Candidate’s Night event on Thursday. Come see him reprise that tomorrow (Monday) night at 7pm, at the Beech Street Center. Yes for Belmont needs a large audience of supporters to cheer him on and send the message that Belmont is ready to vote YES! If you can make it, send an e-mail to the campaign to RSVP.
