Attempted abduction near Burbank?

I just received an automated phone call from the Belmont PD reporting an attempted abduction of a 10 year old boy near the Burbank School today. According to the message, the incident happened at 3:25 PM and the suspect — described as a 30 year old white man wearing a long black coat and blue jeans — fled on foot from Oakley Rd. towards Payson Rd.

The police are looking for this guy and asking for help. Anyone who was in the vicinity of the Wellington or Chenery Middle School this afternoon and saw something suspicious should contact the BPD at 617 484-1212.

This is the latest in a string of suspicious incidents around the Chenery. In recent months, there have been reports of both male and female students being approached on their way to and from the Middle School, offered rides and so on. This latest report — if true — would seem to raise the level of alarm that something sinister is afoot.

One Response to Attempted abduction near Burbank?

My 12 year old attends a private school in Arlington. (Minutes from Belmont) A few weeks ago a notice came home from the school that a suspiscious man was trying to lure a child from the playground during recess. Fortunately, recess monitors were notified by the children of this incident.
